Still a WIP!!

This W is still VERY MUCH I P !! It is taking forever with all of the thread work. Hope it is worth it in the end!

Heavy going!
this corner pretty well finished

still one and a half leaves to go

You can see where I still have to stitch
Once this centre bit is finished, I will do the background and THEN decide if I need any more shadows etc. It is a bit of a stretch of the realistic anyway, so I am not too fussed about accurate shadows.
AND, the Celebration of Coleus so far!
I am going to post this ONE MORE TIME on the needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com and next week, it will be DONE or I will NOT post it. I WILL have started something else:-)

Finally finished

Last night, I put the binding on the View From Clingman's Dome! No longer a WIP!! Yay! On the whole, I am pleased with it although the fabrics I had to work with did not give me the luminosity I was wanting. The limitations of commercial fabrics kind of held me down , however, if I had more time , I could likely have found better ones.
As you can see , the photo is a wee bit over exposed . The sun through the front window was wicked this morning!

And now, for the people who like to see the stitches.....
Invisible thread used here to quilt the sky.

The quilting on the mid ground trees is very random and I only stitched near the tops of the trees. All I wanted was a bit of relief and interest and texture, not detail.

Doing the grasses in the foreground is really fun! I love machine quilting and thread painting.
Finished at last and ready to start a more colourful and fanciful one now. As I do it, I will post a clearer description of the actual steps in the applique process - for turned applique.

I am posting the finished product on WIP Wednesday on The Needle and Thread Network. A new WIP is in progress but it is VERY WIP just now so not much to show.

Look a   needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca  Lots of interesting things to see and to read about there. Come and join us!

Are you sick and tired of seeing this now???

The Fatsia Project is FINI!!! All but the mounting, that is. Oh, and I need to make a label. I THINK I am happy. I used a variegated thread for the background quilting and , in hindsight, maybe a solid colour would have been better. It kind of borders on too busy I think.

I have thought of all sorts of ways to hang this but have decided to pester my long suffering husband and get him to make me a little 3/4" x3/4" frame and stretch the bound edge around it so the piece stands out from the wall. I will leave 1/4" of binding showing but cut it a couple of inches wide so there is enough to wrap round the frame. The quilt is quite realistic, almost like a painting so I like the idea of hanging it like a painting.

Cropped a bit too much by the photo but you get the idea.
For certain of my kind online friends( you KNOW who you are !) I took some detailed pictures because I know you like to see the details :-). Enjoy the penultimate post on the Fatsia Project- I HOPE!

Detail of some background quilting and the thread painting.

...and more detail...

...and my favourite berry!
...and most of the big leaf. Too bad it was rolled in on itself. The leaves are spectacular big palmate things with shiny surfaces and prominent veins,

Ready to stitch

It has come down to the wire now with this little piece. By the way, it is17.5 inches by 20 inches as it stands at the moment. I will be making a practice piece to try my new needles and new threads before I work on the quilt top. There is tearaway stabilizer as well as a lot of layers of Wonder Under and , of course, the cotton fabrics to get through. Eventually, once I have done some thread painting, I will add the batting and backing and actually quilt it too but for now it will be all edge stitched with invisible thread , then some thread painting. It is going to be a HOT Canada Day weekend ( and our 46th anniversary on the first too) so I shall be indoors , sewing merrily and staying cool.
This is what I will be working with. You can see that I have altered the top left corner a little and am ready to sew. Good luck to me !

Moving right along

The Irises stitched

The Poppies stitched

The Sunflowers ready for stitching
I have done the thread paintng on the poppies and on the irises now and the sunflowers are next. The tear away stabilizer I used is not wonderful. It is wonderfully hard to tear away!!! In the end, I am leaving it where the pieces are small and removing it behind the larger open areas. That will be fine . So far, I am pleased but I will be very glad when the job is done.

Stay tuned for the finishing which I hope will happen early this week.
I POSTED THIS ON THE NEEDLE AND THREAD NETWORK WHOSE ADDRESS IS ON THE SIDEBAR. Enjoy the posts. Always interesting!
